Radical Hours: Demystifying NFTs for the Anticapitalist Artist

Our first event in our Radical Hours series is on NFT's: what they are, why they are, and how artists with anticapitalist politics can react to their increasing ubiquity. We’re going to cut through the hype to suss out the economic reality and dream up some more radical responses together. The Radical Hours series is designed to be a way to gather around focused study and discussion in a one-off format around current events and trends.

The event will be held on Wednesday, March 9th starting at 5pm PT/8pm ET and will take place on Zoom. It will be free/donation-based. A4A facilitators will be joined by Francisco Perez (Center for Popular Economics) for brief presentations and discussion around study questions.

We ask participants to prepare by reviewing roughly 2 hours of materials:

  1. NFTs: crypto grifters try to scam artists, again [29 min]

  2. HERE IS THE ARTICLE YOU CAN SEND TO PEOPLE WHEN THEY SAY “BUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES WITH CRYPTOART WILL BE SOLVED SOON, RIGHT?” [54 min]

  3. Play to Lose [21 min]
