Who or what is a cultural worker? What changes when we choose to identify as one? And more importantly, what is required of us in that identification?
Culture In Resistance is a new series of talks with artists and creative people who choose—emphatically and without hesitation—to embrace the calling, responsibility, and opportunity of being a cultural worker: one who works through creative and cultural means for the liberation of the people.
The series will platform an inspiring cross-section of guests who can clearly articulate their political standpoint, learned lessons, and practical goals within the bounds of a radical, revolutionary horizon.
Our first gues Mette Loulou von Kohl was born from the orange at the center before the new world came. She is a performer and a wanderer. Mette Loulou is a queer femme, of Lebanese/Palestinian and Danish ancestry. She has lived in New York, Romania, Morocco, Denmark and England. Mette Loulou is fascinated by the intersection between her personal identities as a jumping off point to reveal, dismantle and rebuild realities and dreams. She grapples with her past to complicate and better understand her present. Mette Loulou weaves movement, words, and objects into the exploration of her embodied histories. She exists in two places at once. Lou Lou organizes with the Palestinian Youth Movement as a member of their Culture Committee.
